Lanhydrock is a rather grand country house in the south west of England. And as with most National Trust properties, some of the best bits are “downstairs “.

Fortunately, sunrise at the start of April is at a time when it’s socially acceptable to get up to catch it.

Unfortunately, that time is also when the transatlantic flights arrive in the UK.
